Over 360,000 Moldovan citizens live in Transnistrian region
Over 360,000 holders of Moldovan citizenship reside in the Transnistrian region of the country.
According to the Public Services Agency (ASP), as of December 31, 2024, the number of residents in the Transnistrian region included in the state population register reached 371,551, an increase of 5,019 people compared to the previous year. 362,325 hold Moldovan citizenship, which is an increase of 4,791 citizens compared to 2024.
307,726 residents in the Transnistrian region have identity cards of Moldovan citizens, while 342,443 hold Moldovan passports.
Additionally, in the context of implementing Government Decision no. 286/2019 regarding civil status certification in localities on the left bank of the Dniester and Bender municipality, the process of obtaining civil status documents on civil status events occurred and recorded in the areas has been simplified.
In 2024, 11,651 people from the Transnistrian region applied for the certification of civil status facts, and 16,746 national model civil status documents were issued (9,181 certificates and 7,565 duplicates), providing facilitations for 3,192 applicants for the Moldovan identity card and 786 applicants for the provisional identity card.
“The implementation of these actions reflects the ongoing commitment of the Moldovan authorities to facilitate the integration of citizens from the Transnistrian region within the national legal framework and to ensure their access to public services and respect for fundamental rights,” the Reintegration Policy Office said.
