Problems on livestock sector development examined in Hancesti

Chisinau, 9 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- Prospects for the development of the livestock sector were discussed yesterday in Hâncești, at two beef cattle farms, with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA), together with representatives of the National Agency for Food Safety.

Farm owners reported on the implementation of the latest animal husbandry technologies, on the specifics of meat exports to Asian markets, presented the share of the sector in the global agricultural product, economic and performance indicators of agricultural holdings.

At the same time, the challenges that stagnate the activity of the livestock sector in our country were discussed. Among the most common problems encountered in the sector, farmers called the lack of young specialists; of veterinarians, which hinders the effective management of emergencies and diseases; low availability of certain types of vaccines in the Republic of Moldova; increase in feed costs, etc.

Farmers said they wanted more facilities to be set up to stimulate zootechnical activities.

"The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is concerned with the development of appropriate policies and forms of support, aimed at developing and modernizing the livestock sector. The livestock sector is a priority, which is why the investments from the state will be increased, in order to develop it ", said minister Viorel Gherciu.

According to the official, the association of agricultural producers will be encouraged by allocating more subsidies from the national budget. "We intend to increase the dialogue between the business environment and the relevant educational institutions, in order to create attractive conditions in which our young people can continue their professional activity in the Republic of Moldova. Through these interventions, we aim to improve the quality, to increase the competitiveness of the production of animal origin both on the internal and on the external market ”, Gherciu said.
