Moldovan president wishes success to sportspeople representing Moldova at European Youth Olympic Festival, hands them flag
President Maia Sandu today handed the flag to the 23 sportspeople who will represent Moldova at the European Youth Olympic Festival, organized in Skopje, North Macedonia. President Maia Sandu wished them success and noted that, beyond achievements, Moldovan athletes would be able to convey an important message about the seriousness with which the next generation is educated and about the healthy lifestyle they promote.
"In Moldova, we are experiencing a true revival of sports. In 2022, 2023, and 2024, our sportspeople achieved remarkable results at international competitions, including the Olympic Games. You represent living proof that, when you truly want something, everything becomes possible. I wish you much success, concentration and positive energy in all the events you will participate in," noted the head of state.
At the same time, the Moldovan president that, in recent years, the authorities had made sustained efforts for the development of local sports. A new Sports Law has been adopted, supporting performance, physical education in schools, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Over a hundred gyms and sports fields across the country have been modernized and the scholarships awarded to sportspeople have been increased.
The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) is a multisport event organized under the aegis of the European Olympic Committees. The festival serves as a launching ramp for young sportspeople for their future participation in European, world championships and Olympic Games. The first edition took place in Brussels in 1991. This year, Moldova will be represented by 23 athletes, along with their coaches in the following categories: badminton, athletics, swimming, judo, table tennis, taekwondo, cycling and shooting.
