Law-enforcement bodies have uncovered the criminal activities of a ring specialized in smuggling narcotics from Europe and selling them in Moldova through the mobile application Telegram. The seized drugs are valued at over 1.5 million lei.
According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), the leaders of the crime ring, located in the EU, organized a scheme to smuggle various types of drugs from Spain to Moldova, using the way of concealing them in unaccompanied parcels.
To divert police attention, the suspects recruited and involved more minors who collected the disguised drugs from the pickup points in Chisinau and then transported them to different rented premises where they were divided into smaller doses and placed in hiding spots. From there, couriers collected and placed them in various locations throughout the capital.
In early July, law-enforcers detained two minors aged 14 and 17, while they collected an unaccompanied parcel sent from Spain at a transportation company. During searches, 2.5 kg of marijuana, 1 kg of mephedrone, and 1,000 ecstasy tablets were discovered and seized within a speaker box. The value of the drugs removed from circulation exceeds 1.5 million lei.
Based on the prosecutor's motions, house arrest warrants for a period of 30 days were issued for the minors.
If found guilty, the individuals face imprisonment ranging from 7 to 15 years.
