Moldovan PM says digitalization one of segments catalyzing Moldova's European path

The achievements of Moldova in the field of digitalization, strengthening cybersecurity, protecting the digital space and combating misinformation have been the topics discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at a meeting with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen.

PM Dorin Recean emphasized that Moldova was quickly advancing on the European path and digitalization was one of the segments catalyzing this process.

"We are building administrative capacity, involving civil society and the business environment, in order to continuously deliver results. We thank you for the expertise and assistance you provide us," said the prime minister.

"We will continue the close collaboration with Moldova, in order to support the European integration process and digitalization and communications play an important role on this path and provide huge benefits to citizens and businesses," said, for her part, Vice-President of the European Commission Henna Virkkunen.

The officials also discussed measures to strengthen cybersecurity, essential for  Moldova and the entire region. In this regard, Moldova has access to the European Union's cyber reserve, which will allow a rapid and effective response to incidents.

Referring to progress made in the digitalization sector, the PM noted that the country was recognized regionally as a champion of public service digitalization. Recean highlighted the EVO platforms, MConnect (national interoperability platform), MCloud (governmental cloud), advanced digital signature services (MSign, MPass, EVOSign), developed by the Agency for Electronic Governance, connecting over 90 per cent of public institutions. The platforms are continuously modernized, in order to meet the current requirements of the European Union.

An important achievement noted by the two officials was the full elimination of roaming charges between Moldova and the European Union, starting from January 1, 2026, through the country's accession to the Roam like at Home programme. The interlocutors also discussed efforts for the homologation of electronic signatures, with technical support from European partners, and the implementation of the digital wallet – aspects that will facilitate Moldova’s integration into the European digital family.

At the same time, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the innovation and talent Moldova avails of allow for the development of modern solutions. He also said that the authorities were working on a national vision regarding the development of artificial intelligence by 2030, which will outline a clear agenda for investments, innovation and responsible adoption of AI.
