President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with European Commission's Executive Vice President for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen, on her first official visit to Chisinau.

The discussions focused on strengthening the cooperation between Moldova and the European Union in the fields of security and digital transformation. A priority topic of the meeting was the full removal of roaming tariffs between Moldova and the European Union, by the country’s join the Roam like at Home programme starting from January 1, 2026—a concrete step that will facilitate the connectivity of Moldovan citizens and businesses with the European space.

At the same time, the interlocutors addressed issues on regional security challenges, hybrid risks and threats to democracy. President Maia Sandu emphasized the importance of ensuring a free, fair and interference-free electoral process in next autumn, reiterating Moldova's commitment to strengthening the rule of law and democratic institutions.
