Moldova's National Council for Human Rights holds meeting at government to analyze developments, challenges in human rights field

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has chaired a meeting of the National Council for Human Rights. The event brought together representatives from central public authorities, as well as civil society’s organizations.

The agenda of the meeting included such topics as the situation of people with mental disabilities, combating disinformation and promoting social inclusion.

At the same time, the participants addressed the issue of human rights in the Transnistrian region, highlighting such problems as the restrictions on freedom of movement, limited access to education and social benefits and lack of press freedom.

The participants in the meeting also discussed the issue of disinformation and the spread of false information, phenomena that affect social cohesion and the right to correct information.

The PM reiterated the importance of a functional legislative and institutional framework, adapted to current needs. "It is essential to focus on implementing the commitments made, so that human rights policies have tangible effects in the lives of citizens," emphasized the prime minister.

The National Council for Human Rights is an advisory body of the government in charge of coordinating national policies in the field and monitoring international treaties to which Moldova is a party.
