2016 to be declared as year of Mihai Grecu painter in Moldova
Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/-The government today approved a parliament draft decision on declaring 2016 as the year of painter Mihai Grecu, in order to mark 100 years since his birth.
Honored Master of Arts, People’s Artist Mihai Grecu was born in Faraonovka village (Cetatea Alba, currently Odessa region), on 22 November 1916. According to Wikipedia, Grecu was a Romanian painter from Bessarabia, who founded the Bessarabian plastic modernism trend and helped create the National Painting School.
Mihai Grecu is a primordial name for Moldova's art field. “Through his numerous canvases, exhibitions and true artistic events, Mihai Grecu imposed his work and personality in a historical context marked by the negative influence of the political factor. His works aroused turbulent ideological debates and conflicts,” the Culture Ministry ascertains. The work of the famous artist combined traditional folk art with innovative tendencies of the contemporary art during the oppressive times of the soviet system.
Grecu’s paintings are being exposed in prestigious galleries and museums and are mentioned in special editions in lots of countries. The artist exposed his works in China, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Japan, Canada, Croatia, Romania, Estonia, Azerbaijan, Latvia and Lithuania.
