Chisinau, 10 October /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition dedicated to the 130th birthday anniversary of sculptor Alexandru Plamadeala was inaugurated at the National Art Museum of Moldova on 9 October.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, an art critic, Tudor Stavila, has said that the exhibition comprised works of sculpture, graphic and painting, valuable works from the collection of the National Art Museum of Moldova, made by the author on the period 1912-1939.”This is one of the most important exhibitions from this year. Alexandru Plamadeala is the most representative Bessarabian sculptor of the first half of the 20th century. His masterpiece represents the Monument to Stefan cel Mare from the Public Garden with the same name from Chisinau – a work which Plamadeala finished in 1927,” Tudor Stavila stressed.

For his part, the deputy head of the Fine Artists Union from Moldova, Ghenadie Jalba, said that the exhibition impressed both by the painting made in coal and ink-pen and through the sculptures made in plaster. “The exhibition presents comprehensive information about the sculptor, who marked the fine art from the inter-war period by his works,” Jalba noted.

Alexandru Plamadeala was born in Chisinau on 9 October 1888. He studied at the higher school of painting, sculpture and architecture from Moscow, in the workshop of the Russian sculptor Volnukhin. In 1916-1918, Plamadeala worked at the mint from Petrograd. After 1918, Alexandru Plamadeala returned to Chisinau. Here in 1929, he was appointed director of the school of drawing, subsequently turned into the Belles Arts School (presently the Alexandru Plamadeala Republican College of Fine Arts), which he led during 11 years. Plamadeala is the author of the funeral bust of poet Alexei Mateevici from the Orthodox Cemetery on the Armeneasca Street of Chisinau. Alexandru Plamadeala also made a string of portraits to personalities, such as singer Lidia Lipcovschi, bust to fable writer Alexandru Donici, portrait to writer Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu and others.

Alexandru Plamadeala died on 15 April 1940.

The exhibition will be opened till 9 December.
