Exhibition dedicated to 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Romania opened in Chisinau
Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - The National Library (BNRM), Culture Ministry, Romania’s Embassy in Moldova, in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) and the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum today organized an exhibition and event titled, Moldova-Romania: 30 years of diplomatic relations. The event is meant to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between both banks of the Prut river.
In the beginning of the event, BNRM director Elena Pintilei said that the exhibition’s goal was to promote the bilateral relations between Moldova and Romania in those 30 years of Independence, the importance of turning to good account the common historical, linguistic and cultural space, the bilateral strategic partnership for Moldova’s European integration, through the documents and periodical publications from BNRM collections.
In his greeting message, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said that Romania had been the first state to recognize Moldova’s Independence. ‘’Our relation does not boil down to 30 years. We have a relation of hundreds of years with Romania and we have much to learn from this history of the Romanian diplomatic relations,’’ the official stressed.
In the context, Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Daniel Ionita said that those 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries represent a little in the history; yet, at the personal level, this is extremely much. ‘’This is the age of a generation which felt and lived in the European spirit. There are relations of solid partnership between Moldova and Romania,’’ the Romanian diplomat noted.
For his part, the state secretary at MAEIE, Veaceslav Dobanda, thanked Romania for the solid support provided to Moldova in the European integration process. ‘’Thirty years have represented a sinusoidal way with diverse political events which take place in the diplomatic and political relations between the two countries. We have a strategic partnership of European integration with Romania, we have an agreement on association of European integration and a roadmap for the development of our bilateral relations,’’ Veaceslav Dobanda said.
The exhibition comprises about 250 documents.
The event will be opened till the end of next December.
Romania was the first country to recognize Moldova’s independence, immediately after the proclamation of the independence of the new state (27 August 1991). The diplomatic relations, at the level of embassy, were established on 27 August 1991. Romania’s Embassy was the first diplomatic representation opened by a state in Moldova’s capital, Chisinau (it started working on 20 January 1992). Till June 1993, the embassy was led at the level of charge d’affaires. The first Romania’s ambassador to Moldova was accredited in Chisinau in June 1993. The first Moldova’s ambassador in Bucharest was accredited in January 1992.
