Romanian Minister of Culture on first visit to Chișinău
Demeter András István, Romania's Minister of Culture paid first official visit to the Republic of Moldova just days after taking office. Invited by his counterpart in Chișinău, Sergiu Prodan, the Romanian minister chose to begin his activities with a symbolic gesture of openness and collaboration with the Republic of Moldova.
“I am deeply honored and delighted that new Minister of Culture of Romania Demeter András István accepted the invitation to come to Chișinău right on the first weekend of his tenure. It's a gesture that speaks volumes about openness, respect, and a sincere desire for collaboration,” stated Sergiu Prodan.
The two ministers engaged in a discussion based on trust and a shared vision of the role of culture in bringing the two countries closer. Prodan emphasized that the relationship between the ministries of culture of Romania and the Republic of Moldova is becoming increasingly close, based on concrete projects and constant dialogue between cultural figures.
“The brotherhood between the two banks of the Prut is strengthened through culture, dialogue, and the meeting of artists. Culture is the bridge that unites us, and together we will build this bridge step by step—solid, alive, and meaningful,” the Moldovan minister added.
Demeter András István was proposed by UDMR and was appointed as Romania's Minister of Culture on June 23, 2025.
An actor by profession, Demeter András has been a theater director, president of RRA, and has held various positions in state institutions, the last being Secretary of State in the Ministry of Culture.
