ANRE requires suppliers to build up gas reserves for 2026–2027 winter

The Board of Directors of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) approved at today’s meeting measures to ensure the security of natural gas supply for the cold season of 2026–2027.

According to ANRE, suppliers on the natural gas market are required to build, by 1 November 2026, reserves totaling 140,354.871 thousand cubic meters, equivalent to 1,481,873.749 MWh. The decision is adopted on the basis of the provisions of Law No. 108/2016 on natural gas and the data reported by market participants.

The regulatory authority notes that this measure is intended to reduce the impact of possible sudden price increases and to ensure the stable functioning of the natural gas market during the cold season.

The decision includes the list of suppliers required to create reserves, as well as the corresponding volumes, set in proportion to their market share. The largest part of the obligation falls on the company Energocom, which must secure a volume of 134,520.9 thousand cubic meters. The designated suppliers must submit, by 15 November 2026, detailed information on the stored quantities, the method of storage, and the delivery routes, accompanied by supporting documents regarding the reservation of transport capacities.

At the same time, ANRE has separately set the quantity of gas to be stored for the Transnistrian region, taking into account its specific consumption and supply characteristics. The measure aims to maintain the balance of the national natural gas system and prevent possible supply interruptions.

The decisions adopted aim to strengthen the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and to ensure adequate preparation for the cold season, under conditions of transparency and responsibility for all actors in the sector.
