CFM resumes rail imports of scrap metal after several years of interruption

A shipment of 1,125 tons of scrap metal was transported by rail from Romania to the Republic of Moldova on October 19, 2026, through Ungheni–Cristești Jijia border crossing. According to the State Enterprise Moldovan Railways (CFM), the shipment marks the resumption of scrap metal imports by rail after several years of interruption.

The train consisted of 26 broad-gauge wagons, measuring 1,520 mm.

CFM stated that the resumption of these shipments enables the use of railway infrastructure for freight transport and the diversification of international flows. At the same time, this type of transport helps strengthen the company’s role in organizing freight exchanges between the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
