BNM Governor in discussions with European Commissioner for Financial Services

Through continuous cooperation and dialogue with European institutions, we can build a resilient, competitive economy that meets the expectations of citizens. Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Anca Dragu made the statement today. She had a meeting with Maria Luís Albuquerque, European Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union, during her visit to Chișinău.

The discussions focused on developments in the Moldovan financial sector, the macroeconomic situation of the Republic of Moldova, and the involvement of the NBM in the European integration.

During the meeting, the BNM Governor highlighted the progress in the governance and transparency of the central bank, as well as the modernization of payment infrastructure, emphasizing adherence to SEPA (the Single Euro Payments Area), which is a "symbol of trust, a validation of the reforms carried out, with concrete benefits for citizens and businesses."

"Our achievements so far encourage us to continue with the same determination: macroeconomic stability, institutional transparency, and structural reforms. The modernization of payment infrastructure, the digitization of financial services, and the strengthening of governance bring us closer to European standards and best practices. Through continuous cooperation and dialogue with European institutions, we can build a resilient, competitive economy that meets the expectations of citizens," declared Anca Dragu.

The BNM Governor highlighted that the implementation of the Growth Plan agreed with the European Union, worth 1.9 billion euros for 2025-2027 represents a major economic opportunity for strengthening the country's competitiveness, to which the BNM actively contributes.

The meeting took place in the context of the high-level dialogue workshop "Finance and Economic Growth: Lessons for the European Path of the Republic of Moldova," which brought together in Chișinău senior officials from national and European authorities, representatives of international financial institutions and economic experts.
