Moldovan national energy regulator extends application deadline for product facilitating gas transport to Ukraine

The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) today extended the application deadline for the product established on the Vertical Corridor, which includes Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine, aimed at strengthening regional energy security and ensuring the supply of natural gas to Ukraine.

Thus, ANRE ruled to extend the application period for the "Route 1" product, part of the vertical gas corridor, for a period of 6 months (November 2025 – April 2026), in order to implement a 50-per cent cut in transport tariffs for Lilited Liability Company (LLC) Vestmoldtransgaz at the Causeni and Grebenyky interconnection points, as well as to expand the applicability of the capacity product to all relevant interconnection points along the route.

The product provides a 25-per cent discount on gas transport tariffs in Greece and Bulgaria, 50-per cent in Romania and Moldova, and 46-per cent in Ukraine, provided that the gas is transported through a string of dedicated points directly to the underground storage facilities in Ukraine.

The Energy Ministry specified that, through this initiative, Ukraine is supported in its effort to purchase gas for the cold season, given that its critical infrastructure is being targeted by Russia.

At the same time, ANRE said that, through this decision, Moldova strengthened its role as a regional transit corridor, facilitating the transport of natural gas from Greece to Ukraine and contributing to the diversification of supply routes and sources. In the long term, an increase in transported volumes is expected, as well as a consequent reduction in tariffs for users of the transport system operated by LLC Vestmoldtransgaz.

In late last May, the natural gas transport system operators (TSOs) from Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine jointly proposed a monthly route product for the firm bundled capacity for the period June-October 2025, meant to facilitate the transport of natural gas from Greece to Ukraine.

The bundled capacity product for natural gas transport was provided on the trans-Balkan route, strategically positioned through the following interconnection points: Sidirokastron/ Kulata, Kardam/ Negru Vodă, Isaccea/Orlovka, Căușeni / Grebeniki.
