Prime Minister-designate: Economic solution - best for solving Transnistrian conflict

The economic solution is the best for solving the Transnistrian conflict. We are in very intense discussions with our partners and I very much hope that we will find a solution. The statement was made today by the candidate for the position of Prime Minister, Alexandru Munteanu, in the Parliament plenary session.

The official emphasized that the Transnistrian conflict represents a 'painful problem' and hopes very much that 'the new Government will find a solution'.

'We believe that the best and only solution is the economic one, but we must solve the problem correctly. We are in very intense discussions with our partners and I very much hope that, together, we will find a solution - first and foremost, an economic solution. We are now in the service of the state of the Republic of Moldova - that is the only mission we have,' said Alexandru Munteanu.

He mentioned that a military solution is not considered in relation to the Transnistrian issue.

'Certainly, sometimes we are provoked - if we go towards a harsher option and the answer is always no. It is too easy a solution to be good. There are our citizens and we will try to help them as quickly as possible, we must provide them conditions, opportunities, and some paths of reintegration into our state Republic of Moldova,' stated Alexandru Munteanu.

Valeriu Chiveri, appointed as Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, specified that the resolution of the Transnistrian conflict can only occur through dialogue and peaceful means.

'Diplomacy is not only public; there is also diplomacy not known by the public at large. The resolution of the Transnistrian conflict can only occur through dialogue and peaceful means. Ukraine's official position is by no means to intervene militarily in a region of a neighboring country. Ukraine continues to support the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and I have no doubt that it will continue to do so,' added Valeriu Chiveri.

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova met today in session for hearings and the vote of confidence on the Government led by the designated Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. The Cabinet proposed by Munteanu consists of 16 ministers, five of whom will also hold the position of Deputy Prime Ministers.
