Moldova's economy minister-designate says first actions new government can implement in 100-day period can prompt economic growth of up to 1-2 per cent

The new government has a well-developed plan of actions for the country's economic development, and the first measures that can be implemented in a 100-day period could lead to achieving an economic growth of up to 1-2 per cent. The designated Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugen Osmochescu has made statements to this effect.

“We already have economic growth. So, if we look at the current figures, we have a growth of 1.1 percent compared to last year. But no, it is not enough, that's why I say we move forward. Because the proposals we have in the government programme, and the action plan, which is detailed, consist of meticulous actions that are scheduled by days, months and years, which will lead to growth, at least according to our estimates, from the first actions we can implement in a 100-day period, we can achieve a growth of up to 1-2 per cent. These are estimates not only made by us, but also confirmed by our development partners,” said Eugen Osmochescu.

The designated minister noted that the action plan in the economic development field would be implemented with maximum responsibility. “We have an action plan that is well-determined and will be implemented rigorously, but at the same time, with maximum responsibility. Because we have a responsibility towards the citizens,” said Osmochescu.

The official pointed out that the main goal would be European integration, and the changes that will be made would focus on achieving this, with an emphasis on increasing productivity, supporting businesses and attracting investments.

“The changes will primarily concern the internal structure, which relates to EU accession. Because the emphasis, our main goal, is the EU accession. So, all efforts are for EU accession. In the context, specialists, donor assistance will be focused precisely on European integration, but also on increasing productivity, supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises, attracting investments, emphasis on productivity, not just consumption,” Eugen Osmochescu added.

Prime Minister-designate Alexandru Munteanu today went to parliament, in order to ask for the vote of confidence from the deputies, presenting the activity programme of the new cabinet and the governmental team.
