Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved the Regulation on the areas of protection of the power networks, which establishes clear-cut limitings for the use of grounds in the proximity of power networks and bans the construction of residential and non-residential buildings in these critical areas. The measure is needed, in order to prevent accidents and ensure the uninterrupted supply of electric energy.

The document comes in the context of the expansion and modernization of the energy infrastructure from Moldova, including major projects on interconnection with Romania’s energy system, such as the Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-tension power line.

The new provisions include the clear establishment of the protection areas for the power stations, the transformation posts, distribution points and the cells and equipment of dividing and commutation. Another change regards the cutting of the protection distances, depending on the technological progress and new solutions of engineering, such as the use or insulated or protected conductors. For instance, the distance between the overhead power lines with the tension of up to 1 kV with insulated conductors is reduced to 1 metre, and for the lines of 1.20 kV – with protected conductors - to 5 metres.

The Regulation establishes also strict rules for the coexistence of the power networks with other engineering institutions and infrastructure objects, establishing the framework necessary for the prevention of dangerous interferences.

In Moldova, the transport power networks comprise 6,228 km of power lines and the distribution power lines total about 56,850 km of lines, placed both on public and on public grounds.
