Moldova to launch e-Consulate system, to modernize delivery of consular services for Diaspora citizens

The delivery of consular services for Diaspora citizens will be made more efficient through the launch of the e-Consulate information system. The decision providing for the creation of the new system was approved by the government today.

The implementation of the e-Consulate information system will enable the integration of all consular services provided by diplomatic service institutions into a single virtual space, following the model of an “electronic one-stop consular shop.”

The project was presented by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister  Mihai Popsoi. The official noted that the launch of the system would benefit approximately one million citizens of the country living abroad.

“The government has undertaken to build a strategic relationship with our citizens in the Diaspora, and the foundation of this relationship is the delivery of quality and timely consular services through the maximum digitalization of these services. Today, I propose that we approve the draft decision establishing the e-Consulate information system, which will modernize the delivery of these services. It has been piloted and improved over the past few months. We firmly believe that our citizens in the Diaspora will appreciate these services at a high level of quality,” said Mihai Popsoi.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan welcomed the approval of the initiative, noting that it would make the delivery of services to the Diaspora more efficient.

“I have used consular services in Kyiv, Boston, Amsterdam and Brussels. I believe there is still work to be done. There have been many improvements, but I hope that the new e-Consulate system will make us faster and more efficient. And I truly believe this will please the more than one million Moldovans living abroad,” Vasile Tofan emphasized.

The administration, maintenance and continuous development of the e-Consulate information system will be financed within the limits of the funds allocated to the Foreign Affairs Ministry under the annual budget law, as well as from other sources, in accordance with the legislation.
