Feasibility study for Chișinău-Ungheni segment of Iași–Ungheni-Chișinău highway to be ready by late 2025

The feasibility study for Chișinău-Ungheni segment of Iași–Ungheni-Chișinău highway will be ready by the end of this year, announced Prime Minister Dorin Recean today.

“We have many roads to repair, we have new roads - very important - to build from scratch, such as Iași–Ungheni-Chișinău highway. By the end of this year, the feasibility study for Chișinău-Ungheni segment will be ready,” stated Dorin Recean at a press conference.

The Iași–Ungheni-Chișinău highway is a continuation of the Union Highway, which starts from Târgu Mureș and reaches the border with the Republic of Moldova, in the area of Ungheni village in Iași County. Part of this highway is also the Ungheni road bridge over the Prut River, symbolically named the Flower Bridge, the construction of which began on April 26 this year.

Recean announced that this year, authorities will invest 3.2 billion lei for the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and maintenance of roads and bridges in the Republic of Moldova. The money will be used to modernize over 600 kilometers of local and regional roads. Dorin Recean noted that this is the largest amount of money ever allocated in the Republic of Moldova for road infrastructure in one year.

From the total amount, 2.7 billion lei has been allocated through the Road Fund for regional roads, and another 500 million lei has been additionally included in the PLUS Budget for local roads.

The official emphasized that segments of roads that have never been repaired since independence will be rehabilitated, and most of them have never had asphalt coverage.

Dorin Recean ordered that all responsible institutions will monitor the quality and pace of work, and the contracted companies will have to mobilize and meet all deadlines.

In the last three years, 766 km of roads have been renovated, which is three times more than in the previous ten years, show the statistical data.
