Moldova has sufficient fuel stocks and diesel shortage temporary, Ministry of Energy says
The Republic of Moldova currently has sufficient fuel stocks, and the diesel shortage reported at some filling stations is temporary and related to logistical specifics, distribution, and increased demand in certain regions, the Ministry of Energy announced. The information comes after ANRE reported that 75 stations in the country had no diesel, and 27 had no gasoline.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the number of stations without diesel has decreased by 20 compared to August 6, from 95 to 75. The authorities state that the situation does not indicate a deficit of petroleum products at the national level. Currently, market operators hold commercial stocks estimated at approximately 5.9 days of consumption for diesel and 14.8 days for gasoline. These figures do not include the state’s emergency reserves.
The Ministry of Energy notes that the local shortages mainly concern certain networks that do not import directly, including Lukoil and Bemol, and which are supplied by other operators on the market. At the same time, the needs of the agricultural sector are largely covered through wholesale purchases, where, according to the authorities, there are currently no supply shortages.
At the beginning of August, a slight diesel deficit was recorded on the market. According to the Ministry of Energy, the situation is beginning to improve after Romania exceptionally allowed diesel exports to the Republic of Moldova. An additional issue is the low level of the Danube, which affects navigation and fuel transport by river. Under these conditions, Moldovan importers are working to increase the volumes brought in by land, especially through the Leușeni customs checkpoint. The volumes imported via this route are directed mainly to filling stations, in order to maintain stable supply.
ANRE announced today that, in recent days, imports of petroleum products have exceeded the average daily consumption, which contributes to increasing stocks and the gradual improvement of the situation. The Agency also mentioned that the temporary lack of diesel at some stations does not affect, overall, the coverage of consumers’ current needs. The authorities state that the situation is being monitored at the national level and that the necessary mechanisms to ensure continuity of supply have been established by decisions of the National Crisis Management Commission.
The Ministry of Energy urges citizens to obtain information from official sources and to avoid panic-driven fuel purchases, as these can generate additional pressure on distribution networks.
