Prime Minister attended Sports Festival held in Nisporeni
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan attended today Sport Across Generations festival held in Nisporeni – the city designated as the Sports Capital for 2026.
The event is dedicated to sport, family, and community, bringing together children, young people, families, seniors, and persons with disabilities in a program focused on promoting sport, physical activity, and an active lifestyle. The event agenda includes the Generations Run, demonstrations by sports federations, competitions for families and representatives of the diaspora, interactive activities, and a concert by local performers.
Tofan congratulated Nisporeni city on obtaining the title of Sports Capital, highlighting the important role of Moldovan athletes in promoting the image of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the official, this title comes this year with a budget of 2 million lei, double compared to last year. “Our ambition is much greater. By 2030, we aim to open 10 multifunctional sports centers across the country and 50 well-equipped sports fields near schools. Only in this way can we move things forward so that we have a healthier country,” said Tofan.
During the festival’s official ceremony, the symbolic handover of the Sports Capital Cup took place from the city of Călărași, host of the previous edition, to Nisporeni.
Throughout this year, Nisporeni hosts sports events at local and national level, including national wrestling competitions, a stage of the national motocross competition, sports festivals and demonstrations, events dedicated to professional and amateur athletes, special programs for elderly people, as well as activities adapted for persons with disabilities. These initiatives aim to encourage participation in sports activities regardless of age and to strengthen the role of sport as an element of cohesion within the community.
