Moldovan electoral body announces start of electoral period for new local elections and referendum of 1 November
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announces the beginning of the electoral period for the new local elections and referendum, due on 1 November 2026.
According to the CEC, the main actions during the electoral period include the establishment and organization of the activity of lower-level electoral bodies, the registration of candidates for the positions of mayor and local councilor, as well as of participants in the referendum.
Polling stations will also be created and organized, electoral lists will be updated and published, voter information activities will be carried out, and electoral officials will be trained. The process will conclude with the organization of voting and the tabulation of the results of the elections.
The electoral period will end once the election results are confirmed and the mandates of the elected local officials are validated.
New local elections will be held in the villages of Cairaclia and Novosiolovca, Taraclia district, the town of Costești, Rîșcani district, the village of Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district, and the village of Tomai, Gagauzia. On the same day, a local referendum will be held in Delacău village, Anenii Noi district.
