DOC // Rail transport to be eligible for co-financing to boost mobility in localities

Rail transport will be eligible for co-financing to boost mobility in certain localities. The legislative amendments and the presidential decree promulgating them were published today in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the document, the possibility of co-financing rail transport will help ease traffic in certain areas of the country. One example mentioned is the interconnection of Eugen Doga Chisinau International Airport with the national rail network.

The document also contains provisions regarding the conclusion of a multiannual contract for the management of railway infrastructure, as well as a contract for public passenger transport services. This is necessary for the utilization of 300 million lei allocated in the State Budget Law for 2026, including prior to the completion of the reorganization process of Moldova Railway company.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development remains the authority responsible for awarding public service contracts by tender, while the Government will have the competence to decide on the direct award of such contracts under circumstances provided by law.

The initiative is part of the process of harmonizing national legislation with European Union rules and implementing the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova in the EU accession process.

The law enters into force upon the publication in the Official Journal.
