Moldovan Prime Minister and Luxembourg counterpart discussed European path of country, expansion of bilateral cooperation
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan had a telephone conversation today with Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Luc Frieden. The two officials discussed the next steps in the Republic of Moldova’s accession negotiations with the European Union, as well as the development of economic and investment relations between the two countries.
Tofan thanked Luxembourg for its constant support for the Republic of Moldova and firm backing of the European Union’s enlargement policy.
“EU enlargement is a strategic investment in the security and prosperity of the whole of Europe. The Republic of Moldova is fully committed to advancing through reforms and concrete results and to seizing every opportunity to make progress in the accession negotiations,” said Tofan.
The two prime ministers also discussed opportunities to expand economic and investment cooperation and agreed to maintain an active dialogue between Chișinău and Luxembourg.
Luxembourg holds a special place in the European path of the Republic of Moldova. On 25 June 2024, it hosted the first Intergovernmental Conference between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, which marked the official opening of the accession negotiations. Two years later, on 15 June 2026, also in Luxembourg, the Republic of Moldova opened negotiations on Cluster 1 – Fundamental values, the first cluster of the accession talks.
