The 25th edition of the Spring Wine Vernissage was held in Chișinău. The anniversary event brought together 66 wineries, including 23 small producers, offering the public more than 500 wines.

The local grape varieties Fetească Albă and Fetească Regală were in the spotlight, highlighting the authenticity and identity of Moldovan wine, alongside a selection of white, rosé and sparkling wines.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga emphasized that the Wine Vernissage has become, over the years, a reference point for the wine industry.

“Certainly, 25 editions say a lot; they mean traditions in the community where beauty has been created around wine. Behind this journey there is a lot of work, ambition, perseverance and confidence in tomorrow,” said Ludmila Catlabuga.

During the event, the honorary distinction Knight of Wine was awarded to individuals who have contributed to the promotion and development of the wine sector. At this year’s edition, the title was conferred on Speaker Igor Grosu.

In recent years, the Republic of Moldova has launched an extensive process of certifying wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), a traceability system for quality. Currently, three PGI areas are defined in the country: Codru, which covers the central region; Ștefan Vodă (south-east); and Valul lui Traian (south). For wines with Protected Geographical Indication, at least 85% of the grapes must come from the designated geographical region, while the remaining 15% may come from elsewhere in the country.

Moreover, the year 2025 has been a historic one for the wine sector, as the Republic of Moldova has hosted major global events such as the 46th World Congress of Vine and Wine and the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.” These achievements confirm that Moldova is not only a wine-producing country, but also an emerging tourist destination where wine becomes experience, culture and identity.
