DOC // Single intermediary between producer and consumer

Law on short supply chains for agri-food products was published in today’s issue of the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova, together with the promulgation decree signed by President Maia Sandu.

The document establishes the legal framework for the development of short supply chains and aims to support local producers, reduce environmental impact, and develop a sustainable food system.

According to the new provisions, a short supply chain is defined as a system in which there is a single intermediary between the primary producer and the final consumer.

Consumers will be able to more easily identify products originating from such chains through official logos that will be displayed at points of sale and in public institutions. At the same time, the Government will establish a National Register of Short Supply Chains.

The law also provides for the integration of this system into the public procurement process. Thus, bids that are part of a short supply chain may receive additional points in public tenders.

The coordination of the implementation of the law’s provisions will be ensured by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova.

The document will enter into force nine months after its publication in the Official Journal.
