International Day of Families to be marked on Saturday with festival at Botanical Garden in Chișinău

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection is inviting families from across the country to a full day of activities as part of the Family Festival, organized on International Day of Families. The event will take place on Saturday, May 16, at the Botanical Garden in Chișinău.

This year's edition is held under the theme “Families, inequalities and child well-being” and aims to promote policies and initiatives that support families, contribute to reducing inequalities and ensure better conditions for the development of every child.

“On May 16, the Botanical Garden becomes the place where families from all over the country meet for a day full of joy, music, activities and time spent together. We invite you to the Family Festival, an event dedicated to all generations, in a warm, inclusive and friendly atmosphere, where every family matters,” emphasized Minister of Labour and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru.

The festival will start at 10:00, and the official opening ceremony will take place at 11:00. Throughout the day, visitors will be able to participate in various activities dedicated to children, parents and grandparents, including creative workshops, interactive activities, recreational and educational areas, sessions for connection and intergenerational dialogue, as well as artistic and musical performances. There will also be a photo area with the theme “like at grandma’s house”.

Between 17:00 and 18:00 a symphonic concert will be held by the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, and between 18:00 and 19:00 the evening concert with Vitalie Dani and Nelly Ciobanu will take place.

The event will bring together public institutions, international partners and civil society organizations in a celebration dedicated to family, solidarity, inclusion and child well-being.

Through this event, the Botanical Garden in Chișinău will become a space for meetings between generations, for dialogue and for promoting family values. Participation in the Family Festival is free of charge.

The International Day of Families was established by the UN General Assembly on September 20, 1993, and represents an opportunity to raise awareness of the social, economic and demographic processes that affect families. The Republic of Moldova has been marking the International Day of Families since 2010.
