IMF team of experts coming to Chișinău

International Monetary Fund (IMF) team of experts will be in Chișinău on 7-20 May. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said that this is an important stage in our economic dialogue and expressed hope that the discussions would be productive, with a view to concluding a new program with the IMF.

“Starting tomorrow, a team of experts from the International Monetary Fund will be in Chișinău. We already have an agreed schedule, colleagues have worked on the questionnaire and we expect a very close and productive cooperation with the IMF mission with a view to concluding a new program. This is also an important stage in our economic dialogue and in our credibility exercise. Please be involved; let us approach these discussions with maximum seriousness and professionalism, as we always do,” said Alexandru Munteanu at the beginning of today’s Government meeting.

IMF’s Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova Svetlana Cerović announced on Tuesday that the mission will hold discussions with the authorities following the request for a new program supported by the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI).

“IMF experts will analyze recent economic developments, update the assessment of macroeconomic prospects and risks, and discuss policy and reform priorities with the authorities and other relevant stakeholders,” Svetlana Cerović announced.

In late February, the IMF Executive Board took note of the interest of the authorities in Chișinău in concluding a new agreement with the IMF, emphasizing that maintaining relations through an IMF-supported program will be essential for reviving reform momentum and supporting EU accession. The authorities hope that a new agreement with the IMF will strengthen macroeconomic stability, increase investor confidence, and support the implementation of the reforms undertaken by the Government.
