US to provide Moldova with 8 million dollars to strengthen cybersecurity

The United States of America will provide the Republic of Moldova with 8 million dollars in support to strengthen cybersecurity over the next four years. The announcement was made today by the US Chargé d’Affaires in the Republic of Moldova, Nick Pietrowicz, during the Moldova Cybersecurity Forum 2026 held in Chișinău.

The program will include training, assessments of cyber threats, specialized tools and equipment, as well as support for protecting critical infrastructure. The initiative will help detect and counter cyber threats that affect regional and global stability.

The forum was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, who stated that cybersecurity has become an essential component of state and economic security.

“Being offline is no longer an option, and being unprotected is a risk we refuse to take,” the official said, emphasizing that the Republic of Moldova is investing in developing digital skills and strengthening cyber resilience.

The third edition of the largest event dedicated to cybersecurity in the Republic of Moldova – the Moldova Cybersecurity Forum 2026 – is taking place on May 12–13 in Chișinău. This year’s edition is held under the theme “Regional Cyber Defense: From Commitment to Action.”

During the forum, international experts, representatives of authorities and industry discuss hybrid threats, the protection of critical infrastructure, regional cooperation, and the development of skills in the field of cybersecurity. A distinct topic is the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine within the “Cyber Alliance for Regional Resilience,” launched in February 2026.

The event also includes practical workshops and cyberattack simulations dedicated to professionals in the field and operators of critical infrastructure.
