Bilateral screening for Chapter 16 Taxation concluded in Brussels

The analysis process for Chapter 16 – Taxation concluded today, 16 May in Brussels, as part of the official rounds dedicated to Moldova's accession negotiations with the European Union. According to Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, the discussions focused on aligning national legislation with EU standards and best practices in the fiscal domain.

“As always, it was an enormous collective effort and involved days of preparation to present the country's progress at a high level. Implementing policies in this area will help us create a stable and efficient fiscal framework,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

Chapter 16 includes areas such as fiscal policy, indirect taxes, income taxes and the modernization of tax administration. Completing the screening of this chapter marks an important step in the firm commitment of Chisinau authorities to advance on the European path by strengthening institutions and modernizing economic mechanisms in accordance with EU standards.

On 13 May, the analysis of Chapter 26 – Education and Culture took place, covering five essential areas: education, vocational training, youth, sports and culture. On 15 May, Gherasimov participated in the 166th plenary session of the European Committee of Regions. The discussions focused on the involvement of local authorities in the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova and the role that city halls have in bringing European standards closer to citizens.
