Second day of voting begins in Moldova for Romanian presidential election

Moldovans with Romanian citizenship can vote in the Romanian presidential elections today. 64 polling stations are open across our country.

"The second voting day has begun in the Republic of Moldova. All 64 polling stations were opened at 7:00 AM," announced the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova this morning.

Some voters in the Republic of Moldova chose to cast their vote in the very first minutes after the polling stations opened.

The voting process in the diaspora, including in the Republic of Moldova, lasts three days. It started on Friday, May 16, and will continue on Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18. The polling stations operate between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

In the Northern region, 18 stations are open; in the Central region, there are 38 stations, of which 20 are in Chisinau; and in the Southern region, there are 8 polling stations.

Overall, on the first day of voting, Friday, May 16, over 28,200 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship cast their vote in our country. The voter turnout is higher than in the first round, with voters from the Republic of Moldova among the most active in the diaspora.

In the first round of the Romanian presidential elections, about 91,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted over three days.

Two candidates are participating in the presidential race: AUR party candidate George Simion and independent candidate Nicusor Dan.
