Young people excelling in knowledge of European values rewarded at EuroQuiz 2025 final in Moldova

The best educated young individuals in the field of European Union values and institutions have been awarded at the national EuroQuiz 2025 competition held in Chisinau. The prizes included 18 e-books provided by partners with the support of the Department for Relations with Romanians Abroad. All 210 finalists will benefit from a recreational camp in Romania and the top three teams will go on a visit to Brussels.

The first place was awarded to the young team from the Axentie Doljnenco Theoretical Lyceum in Vulcanesti, Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) of Gagauzia. The second place went to the team from the Mihai Viteazul Lyceum of Chisinau, while the third place was secured by students of the Spiru Haret Lyceum High School students from Chisinau.

President Maia Sandu was present at the event and emphasized the importance of young people’s involvement in the European integration process.

"In the European Union, young people have far more opportunities than in  Moldova. This is what we want for you: better educational institutions, access to resources and programs to help prepare, become competitive, earn money and assert yourself in your fields. There are many reasons why Moldova should be part of the European Union. But we can achieve this together. It is our national project, our collective project. And you will benefit from this process the most. So, congratulations for your curiosity and initiative!" mentioned Maia Sandu.

For her part, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov said that Europe was not just about knowledge, rules, and treaties.

"The European Union is about people, about solidarity. You worked in small teams of five and felt that spirit of solidarity—somewhere, one was stronger, another one was elsewhere. I want to congratulate you all on daring to apply for this competition, on daring to learn extensively about the European Union over the past two months and for being here today," said Cristina Gherasimov.

An encouraging message also came on behalf of Swedish Minister for European Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz, on a working visit to Chisinau.

"Your participation in this competition is more than a contest. This is proof of your commitment to being active, informed citizens. It shows that you are ready to take on both challenges and opportunities and contribute significantly to the European path of Moldova. I look at you with confidence, knowing that Moldova's European future is in good hands," said the Swedish official.

The event was also attended by high-ranking officials, including the Director-General with duties of Secretary of State of the Romanian Department for Relation with Moldova (DRRM) Constantin-Valentin Raducanu, who participated as a special guest, EU Ambassador to Jānis Mažeiks, Minister of Education and Research of Moldova Dan Perciun, cultural figures and media representatives.

Over 2,500 students from across the country, organized into 500 teams, who proved solid knowledge about the values, institutions and policies of the European Union, participated in the EuroQuiz 2025 competition this year.

The contest is annually organized by the Office for European Integration, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research and the Association of Intellectual Games of Moldova, aiming to promote European values among younger generations.
