Deputy Prime Minister: Moldova ready to become strategic logistics hub for EU's eastern border

The Republic of Moldova reaffirms its strong intention to become an integral part of European transport networks, in the context of a meeting held between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea and Magda Kopczyńska, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) within the European Commission.

The discussions took place during the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Transport Community and focused on essential priorities for Moldova's integration into the Single European Transport Area. The Moldovan official requested the European Commission's support for transforming the EU-RM liberalized road transport agreement into a permanent framework, integrating Moldovan infrastructure into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), granting full membership status within the Transport Community, and support for the development of three regional multimodal hubs: Berești, Chișinău and Giurgiulești.

'Moldova is ready to become a strategic logistics hub for the eastern border of the European Union. We have clear projects, political will, and a common vision with the EU for a connected and secure future,' stated Vladimir Bolea.

The European official appreciated Moldova's progress in harmonizing transport legislation and welcomed the proposals included in the Economic Growth Plan regarding the development of logistics infrastructure and the vertical integration of transport modes – road, rail, water and air.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitments made during the second EU-RM High-Level Dialog on Transport and laid the foundation for strengthened cooperation for 2025–2027, focusing on aviation, road safety, digitalization and interoperability.
