President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu participated on 16 May in the sixth edition of the European Political Community Summit, held in Tirana, Albania. The event, hosted by Prime Minister Edi Rama, brought together 47 European leaders, heads of state and government.
During the summit, Maia Sandu hosted a meeting with leaders of France Emmanuel Macron, Italy Giorgia Meloni, the United Kingdom Keir Starmer, President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Along with the leaders of Germany, Friedrich Merz, Poland, Donald Tusk and Romania, Ilie Bolojan, they adopted a joint statement reaffirming their strong support for the Republic of Moldova and their commitment to supporting our country's European path.
"Together we build a secure future, for people to have opportunities, jobs, and a better life – like the rest of Europe. Their support gives us the strength and confidence to resolutely continue our path towards our place in the European family", emphasized Maia Sandu.
Maia Sandu met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the discussion, the two heads of state reaffirmed their joint commitment towards European integration and strengthening security in the region: "Our countries are walking this path side by side – for peace, prosperity, and a safer life for our citizens. Our accession will make Europe stronger and more united."
The head of state also met with European leaders from Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Norway. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and boosting cooperation in areas important for the development of the Republic of Moldova.
The European Political Community was created at the initiative of President of France Emmanuel Macron, and aims to promote political dialogue and strengthen cooperation, security, stability and prosperity on the European continent.
