MEP: Moldova is and will remain priority for European Union
The Republic of Moldova is and will remain a priority for the European Union. After we voted in March for the largest European support in the country's history, worth 1.9 billion euros, I want us to continue supporting Moldova on its path to the EU, MEP Siegfried Muresan said.
'In my report on the European Union's budgetary priorities for 2028-2034, voted today in the plenary of the European Parliament, I included the provision that the Republic of Moldova, alongside Ukraine, should receive adequate financial and political support in the EU accession process,' Muresan said.
According to the MEP, the report also states that during the extension process, the future multiannual budget of the Union should assist both candidate states and the already member states of the European Union.
'We want the EU budget 2028-2034 to be flexible enough so that we are ready to support the Republic of Moldova both with pre-accession funds and as a full-fledged member state if accession occurs during this timeframe. By the accession of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and other states that will meet the conditions, the European Union will strengthen as a geopolitical power against the new security challenges we face,' Muresan said.
