European Commissioner for Enlargement announces visit to Chisinau

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos will visit Moldova on November 9–10. The EU official has made statements to this effect in Luxembourg during a press conference held after the official opening of Moldova’s accession negotiations with the European Union for clusters 2 and 3.

“On November 9 and 10, I will be in Chisinau, and I can’t wait to be there. We will continue to support Moldova on its accession path and I strongly hope that Moldova will continue to demonstrate the same determination. Tomorrow, we will certainly add more magnets to my map,” said European Commissioner Marta Kos.

According to the European official, the reforms related to the two clusters will contribute to economic development, attracting investments and creating jobs.

“It will make it easier for entrepreneurs of Moldova to employ more people and will mean better education, better rights for consumers and workers, and reforms that will enable Moldova to build a better life at home. So, we are not stopping here,” Marta Kos said.

The European Commissioner emphasized that aligning national institutions and legislation with European standards benefits both the state and its citizens.

“The two remaining clusters are technically ready, and we need to start opening them. I encourage Moldova to keep pace with the reforms that have brought us this far. This determination and hard work are being rewarded. Last week, during that tenth Council meeting, we discussed funds—the largest ever for Moldova. Reforms can bring even more European funds and can bring even more funding to Moldova,” the European Commissioner noted.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos last visited on June 4–6, 2026, when she was in Chisinau for meetings with Moldovan officials. The discussions focused on the reforms necessary for accession to the European Union and on attracting investments. Earlier, the European official also visited Moldova in September and November 2025.

Today, October 13, the fourth Moldova–European Union Accession Conference took place in Luxembourg, during which negotiations were officially opened for clusters 2 – Internal Market and 3 – Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth. Moldova still needs to open negotiations for clusters 4 – Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity and 5 – Resources, Agriculture and Cohesion.
