Moldovan environment minister, Romanian counterpart discuss environmental cooperation

Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder has had a telephone conversation with Natalia Intotero, Romania’s new Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests. The ministers discussed the two countries’ common priorities in environmental protection.

Gheorghe Hajder congratulated the Romanian official on taking office and wished her success in her work.

“I congratulated her on her mandate and wished her much success. There has always been close and fruitful cooperation between our ministries, while Romania has been and remains a trusted partner for Moldova,” Gheorghe Hajder wrote on his Facebook page.

Gheorghe Hajder and Natalia Intotero discussed more issues of common interest, including the protection of water resources, expanding forested areas and waste management. The officials agreed to maintain regular dialogue and hold a meeting in the near future.

“We agreed to maintain close contact and meet in the near future. The environment has no borders and good projects must continue on both banks of the Prut,” Gheorghe Hajder emphasized.

The cooperation between Moldova and Romania in the environmental field includes reforestation, biodiversity protection and pollution control projects. On March 14, 2026, the environment ministries of Moldova and Romania organized a joint planting action on both banks of the Prut. The work took place in Sculeni, Iasi County, and Blindesti, Ungheni district, with seven hectares planted in Romania and 3.5 hectares in Moldova.

At the same time, institutions of Moldova participate in cross-border initiatives to protect biodiversity in the Prut region and reduce plastic pollution in freshwater ecosystems.
