Chisinau, October 22, 2026 – The MPs have adopted a draft law providing tax and customs facilities for the import of a batch of 24 stringed musical instruments meant for Moldova’s National Collection of Musical Instruments.

The musical instruments, including 15 violins, four violas, four cellos and one double bass, were purchased by the Organ Hall under a procurement contract worth 324,000 euros, including value-added tax. The application of the tax and customs exemptions will generate savings of 54,000 euros.

The purchase of the instruments aims to establish the National Collection of Musical Instruments of Moldova and to equip the National Chamber Orchestra with instruments that meet professional performance standards. The instruments will be recorded in the accounting records of the Public Institution, Organ Hall, and will be used exclusively for the cultural purposes for which they were acquired.

The author of the legislative initiative, lawmaker Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, head of the commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media, justified this provision by the need to use public funds efficiently, protect the national cultural heritage and ensure the conditions necessary for the professional activity of the National Chamber Orchestra.

The law will enter into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal of Moldova.
