Moldova starts technical discussions on initial negotiation chapters for EU accession

Moldova is making a significant new step in its European integration journey, as it launches technical discussions with the European Commission and the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the initial chapters of accession negotiations. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has said that, at this point, the dialogue would focus on three out of six groups of negotiation chapters, regarded as the core of the accession process.

According to the deputy PM, Fundamental Values, Internal Market, and External Relations - these clusters are essential for any candidate state, as they address the consolidation of the rule of law, the work of the market economy and alignment with the European Union's foreign and security policy.

"Starting substantive discussions at the technical level will allow the Moldovan authorities to benefit from clarifications, guidance and monitoring on behalf of the European Commission and member states. This process will contribute to accelerating reforms and maintaining a steady pace of preparation for accession. We have much work ahead, but we have proved this year that we are ready and can deliver results. Our goal for next year is to advance even further in the level of preparation for European Union accession," said the deputy prime minister for European integration.

At the same time, Cristina Gherasimov expressed gratitude to the Danish Presidency of the EU Council and the European Commission for the support provided and for the confidence given to Moldova in advancing its European agenda.

The Moldovan authorities emphasize that this stage marks a crucial phase of the accession negotiations, which will lay the foundation for future progress in Moldova's process of integration into the European Union.
