Speaker after European Parliament vote on Report on the Republic of Moldova: Moldova moves forward. Step by step, ever closer to European Union

Speaker Igor Grosu welcomed the adoption by the European Parliament of the Report on the Republic of Moldova, noting that the vote reflects the trust placed in our country and represents an incentive to continue reforms on the path of European integration.

“Thank you to the European Parliament for today’s vote and for the trust given to the Republic of Moldova. The Report on the Republic of Moldova was adopted with an overwhelming majority of 505 votes. Every vote of confidence motivates us to continue reforms and to build a strong, prosperous European country,” said Igor Grosu.

The Speaker emphasized that the Republic of Moldova is continuing its European course and that the authorities’ objective is to transform the country through reforms and the strengthening of institutions.

“Moldova moves forward. Step by step, ever closer to the European Union,” Igor Grosu conveyed.

Today, the European Parliament voted on the annual report on the Republic of Moldova, which calls for the opening, without delay, of accession negotiations on the remaining negotiation clusters that have not yet been opened. The document was approved with 505 votes in favor, 115 against and 45 abstentions.

MEP Siegfried Mureșan said that the vote in the European Parliament demonstrates full support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

“We in the European Parliament consider that the Republic of Moldova is a frontrunner in the accession process and that we must reward this progress by accelerating the negotiation process,” the official underlined.

At the same time, the report “condemns the repeated attempts by the Russian Federation to destabilize the Republic of Moldova, including by trying to influence the outcome of democratic elections,” Mureșan said.

Under these conditions, the European Parliament called for an increase in the financial and technical support that the European Union provides to the Republic of Moldova so that it “can be more secure, counter external threats and continue on the European path,” Siegfried Mureșan added.

During Tuesday’s debates in the European Parliament, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos called for the opening of all negotiation chapters with the Republic of Moldova “as soon as possible,” stressing that the Republic of Moldova has carried out reforms at an impressive pace and that the support granted to the country on its European path represents an investment in a stronger, safer and more united Europe. The Republic of Moldova opened its first EU accession negotiation cluster – Cluster 1 Fundamental Values – on 15 June 2026, during the second EU–Republic of Moldova Intergovernmental Conference held in Luxembourg.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov announced today that the Republic of Moldova has been invited to present its negotiation position on Cluster 6 – External Relations – in the framework of the process of accession to the European Union, under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the authorities in Chișinău have been ready for this step for more than a year.
