New EU entry rules become operational crossing points Moldova as of March 2
The European Union will implement the Entry/Exit System (EES) at more border crossing points along the Republic of Moldova–Romania frontier starting from March 2.
According to the Border Police, the system will become operational at the following crossing points:
- Leuseni–Albita;
- Sculeni–Sculeni;
- Leova–Bumbata;
- Giurgiulesti–Galati (port and rail);
- Ungheni–Iasi (rail).
The EES system applies to citizens of non-EU states who make short stays in the territory of the European Union – up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
At the first entry after the system becomes operational, the authorities will collect the person’s biometric data, in order to create an individual electronic file. For subsequent trips, checks will be carried out automatically, based on the data already recorded, which will help, in the long term, to reduce processing time at the border.
If the legal conditions for entry are met, access to the territory of the EU will be granted and registered electronically, and the person will be informed about the authorized duration of stay. If these conditions are not met, the refusal of entry will be recorded in the system and communicated to the person concerned.
To avoid possible delays at border control, persons who benefit from exemptions from the application of the EES system are asked to present, from the very beginning of the inspection, the supporting documents that confirm this status.
