Moldovan delegation attends World Bank and IMF spring meetings in Washington

A delegation from the Republic of Moldova, led by the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Anca Dragu, and the Minister of Finance, Adrian Gavrilita is participating on 13–18 April 2026 in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C., USA.

The visit agenda includes meetings with representatives of the IMF, WB, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and other international financial organizations and groups. The high-level dialogue with the IMF is taking place in the context of the Chisinau authorities’ request to launch a new three-year program with the Fund without a financial component.

“The decision to opt for a non-financial instrument reflects the improvement in the macroeconomic situation of the Republic of Moldova, which no longer justifies the need for emergency financing,” the NBM stated.

“Continuity of cooperative relations with the Fund is a strategic element for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and will support national authorities in accelerating key reforms and attracting foreign investment,” emphasized Anca Dragu.

The agenda topics also include discussions on national macroeconomic developments and outlook, implementation of the recommendations of the 2025 Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP), strengthening the independence of the NBM and the institution’s role in the European integration process, including implementation of the reform agenda related to the Growth Plan of the Republic of Moldova for 2025–2027.

During the Spring Meetings, the NBM Governor will hold talks with several IMF representatives, including Kenji Okamura, IMF Deputy Managing Director; Alfred Kammer, Director of the IMF’s European Department; Jeroen Clicq, IMF Executive Director for Moldova; and Alina Iancu, IMF Mission Chief for Moldova.

The governor will also meet with representatives of the World Bank: Eugene Rhuggenaath, WB Executive Director for Moldova; Antonella Bassani, Vice President for Europe and Central Asia; and Alfonso Garcia Mora, Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The event serves as a platform for international dialogue on economic and financial policy issues, offering the Republic of Moldova the opportunity to strengthen its partnerships with major global financial institutions. At the same time, this year’s meetings are taking place in a dynamically evolving geopolitical context and will allow the country to promote its national priorities, including its European integration objectives, the NBM concluded.
