April 15 declared National Day of Mourning in Moldova, in connection with funerals of master Gheorghe Urschi
President Maia Sandu has signed a decree declaring April 15, 2026 a National Day of Mourning, in memory of master Gheorghe Urschi, an emblematic figure of Moldova’s culture.
At 12:00, a moment of silence will be observed throughout the country, as a sign of respect and gratitude for the life and work of the man who, through his talent, brought smiles, truth and reflection into the public consciousness.
On this day, in all localities of the country, as well as in the diplomatic and consular missions of Moldova abroad, the State Flag will be flown at half-mast. Public authorities, enterprises and organizations are advised to refrain from holding mass entertainment events and media institutions are asked to adjust their editorial content in accordance with the nature of the day.
The National Day of Mourning is a moment of collective remembrance and appreciation of the outstanding contribution of master Gheorghe Urschi to the country’s culture and identity.
