Merchandise exports up 11 percent in Moldova in first two months of 2026

Merchandise exports increased by 11.6 percent in the first two months of the current year, compared to the same period in 2025, totaling 550.4 million euros, according to data by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).

In January–February 2026, exports of domestic goods amounted to 445.6 million euros, accounting for 80.9 per cent of total exports. This represents an increase of 15.1 per cent against the same period of 2025 and contributed 11.8 per cent to the overall growth in export value.

The most important market for Moldovan goods was the European Union, which accounted for 61.9 per cent of total exports. By contrast, exports to Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries represented 6.2 per cent of total exports.

According to the BNS, in January–February 2026. the main destination countries for merchandise exports were: Romania (26.4 per cent of total exports), Turkey (15.8 per cent), Italy (10.0 per cent), Ukraine (9.0 per cent), the Czech Republic (8.0 per cent), and Germany (5.1 per cent). Together, these markets absorbed 74.3 per cent of total exports.

Moldova mainly exported oilseeds and oleaginous fruits, electrical machinery and equipment and their parts, vegetables and fruits, cereals and cereal-based preparations, clothing and accessories, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, vegetable fats and oils, petroleum and petroleum products, as well as furniture.

At the same time, in January–February 2026, merchandise imports totaled 1,520.7 million euros, down by 0.6 per cent. On the concerned period, the trade balance deficit reached 970.3 million euros, down by 6.4 percent compared to the deficit recorded in the same period of 2025.
