Strengthening social cooperation – on agenda of President’s meeting with Italy’s Minister of Labour and Social Policies
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu held a meeting with Italy’s Minister of Labour and Social Policies Marina Calderone, on a visit to Chișinău. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the social field, as well as on our country’s European path.
The Head of State expressed her gratitude for the openness and constant support offered by the authorities in Rome to the Moldovan community in Italy and for their firm support of the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova. The President underlined the importance of continuing reforms and maintaining close cooperation in order to advance in the accession process.
During the meeting, the Head of State welcomed the implementation of the social security agreement between the two countries and the entry into force of the agreement on the mutual recognition of driving licences, stressing that such measures directly contribute to protecting the rights and facilitating the integration of Moldovan citizens living in Italy.
The President also expressed interest in launching cooperation to draw on Italy’s experience in active ageing policies, inclusion of persons with disabilities, and reducing informal work, as well as in developing joint support programmes for women working in the home-care sector.
