Moldovan president at UN General Assembly
Chisinau, 21 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu started the speech at the 78th UN General Assembly by highlighting the progress of the last year and the fact that we remain firm in our belief to have a democratic future together with EU member countries, the presidential press service has reported.
The official described the situation in the region, noting that Ukraine, Moldova, Europe and the free world are facing an external aggression on democratic values, and supporting Ukraine will guarantee peace in the region. "We strongly support Ukraine's victory, because when Ukraine is victorious, the free world will be victorious. Now, more than ever, support for Ukraine must not diminish. Please continue to support Ukraine," the head of state said.
Maia Sandu said that there is no armed war in Moldova, but every day we have to face hybrid attacks and corrupt criminals who want to destabilize the country.
The official reiterated that despite all the obstacles, we managed to keep peace in the country, including in the Transnistrian region, where Russian troops are stationed illegally and there are concerns about human rights violations. Thus, the president called for the peaceful resolution of all conflicts and the unconditional withdrawal of Russian forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The official tackled the country's role in maintaining security on the European continent and the commitment to European security, confirmed by hosting the European Political Community Summit. She noted that all the economic progress, the actions to improve security and strengthening our democracy are steps that bring us closer to EU membership. "Moldova's accession to the EU is not just a political choice, it is the only way to protect freedom, peace and democracy — in Moldova and on the continent," Maia Sandu said.
