Moldovan president gives message on International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls
Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has come up with a message on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls. The head of state said that the domestic violence was not a private issue, the presidential press service has reported.
„This regards us everybody and all of us together must act and protect the rights of our women and girls. Each of them has the right to a life lived in safety – in family and in the society,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
The head of state stressed that, on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls was marked and the campaign, 16 Days of Activism for Elimination of Gender-based Violence, is organized on 10 December.
„Even if there are many things to do, in the last years, more actions have been undertaken to cut the number of cases of violence against women and to back the women who need help. One year ago, the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence was set up; within the RESTART reform, specialists in combating violence were employed for the first time ever; over 900 professionals in the field were trained – social assistants and not only – the services of assistance for victims of the sexual violence were extended,’’ President Maia Sandu also said.
The head of state noted that the women who passed through violence and needed help can call the 112 assistance service, at the confidence phone for girls and women 0 8008 8008 and at the specialized organizations of the civil society, united within the Life without Violence National Coalition – www.stopviolenta.md.
