Moldovan president meets U.S. Senator Mark Kelly

The Presidency of the Republic of Moldova

President Maia Sandu today received Mark Kelly, member of the United States Senate, at the Presidency. The meeting reaffirmed the strength of the Moldovan-American partnership and Washington’s interest in the security and stability of Moldova and the region.

The two officials discussed the regional situation and the resilience of Moldova in the face of hybrid threats, including in the cyber field. President Sandu welcomed the new U.S. support of 8 million dollars to strengthen Moldova’s cybersecurity over the next four years — a concrete sign of the U.S. commitment to the country. The sides also discussed Moldova’s path to EU accession and the long-term stability it will bring to the region, as well as opportunities for economic cooperation and prospects for expanding the presence of American companies in Moldova.

The meeting is part of the ongoing political dialogue between Chisinau and Washington and reflects the mutual interest in deepening bilateral cooperation.
