PAS MP conveys message on Dniester Day

PAS MP Sergiu Lazarencu delivered a message at the start of today’s parliamentary session to mark Dniester Day, observed annually on the last Sunday of May, emphasizing the river’s importance to the Republic of Moldova and the need to protect it.

“Every year, on the last Sunday of May, we celebrate Dniester Day, a day when we look with gratitude toward our country’s most important river. The Dniester is not merely a source of water. It is part of our history, a silent witness to our identity, and a living heritage inherited from our ancestors,” the lawmaker stated.

He noted that this year’s celebration of Dniester Day takes place against a backdrop of concerns regarding environmental security and water resource management.

“In March, our country went through an unprecedented environmental crisis. The attack on Ukraine’s hydroelectric infrastructure showed us how fragile the balance of nature is and how important water security is for the Republic of Moldova,” Lazarencu said.

The lawmaker thanked the state institutions and experts involved in crisis management, highlighting their efforts to protect water resources.

“I thank all government institutions, specialists, and employees. You have acted with responsibility and dedication to protect the water resource on which over a million people depend,” he said.

In conclusion, Sergiu Lazarencu emphasized that protecting the Dniester is an ongoing responsibility.

“The Dniester is a source of life for Moldova. Protecting it is the responsibility of each and every one of us, through respect for nature, water, and the country’s future. Let us protect it not just today, but every day,” the MP concluded.

Celebrated every year on the last Sunday in May, Dniester Day is one of the most important events highlighting the significance of the river as the Republic of Moldova’s main waterway.
